This research explores optimizing syngas production by enhancing processes such as water volatilization, biomass and petrochemical degradation, as well as the Boudouard reaction. The study found that CO2 enhances char burnout, leading to reduced solid ash, enhanced syngas, and opportunities for CO2 recycling. The purpose of this investigation is to improve the overall efficiency and environmental impact of municipal solid waste gasification.

An Investigation into Syngas Production Enhancement from Municipal Solid Waste Gasification Kelly J. Westby, Eilhann Kwon, and Marco J. Castaldi*Department of Earth & Environmental Engineering [HKSM]Columbia University, New York, NY 10027
Problem: 1.5 billion tons of MSW Solution: MSW gasification Purpose of this Research: Optimize syngas production and char burn out
Main Results Area 1: water volatilization Area2: biomass degradation Area 3: petrochemical degradation Area 4: boudouard reaction (CO2 + C 2CO)
Conclusion CO2 enhances char burnout - cost and environment > solid ash reduction > syngas enhancement > CO2 recycling
