Welcome to Kennedy Parent Night 4-24-14 Presented by: Fifth Grade Teachers
Arrival/Departure Times • Students should arrive at Buck Lake on Tuesday, 5/6 by 7:00 am. Please park on the field • Check in with your teacher and line up by your bus • Buses will depart for Kennedy promptly at 7:30 am • Estimated arrival back at Buck Lake on Wednesday, 5/7 at 5:30. Please be on time to pick-up your child
Bus Rules/Expectations • 3 BUSES – students and chaperones will be assigned buses and are to stay on that bus for all travelling during the trip; everyone must ride the bus • FOOD - Only drinks with tops are allowed – no cans or juice pouches with straws; no sticky snacks or pixie sticks; no peanuts • CHAPERONES - Help is needed from adults to keep students settled ; they should be seated at all times except to use restroom • BATHROOMS – bathrooms on bus may be used at any time; try to limit to emergencies only • DRIVERS BREAK – no students allowed off of the bus
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR • CLOTHES: Wear class shirt on Tuesday; pack Kennedy shirt for Wednesday; comfortable shoes; modest shorts; sleeping clothes; hats/sunglasses, sweats or pajamas • SLEEPING ITEMS: Pillow, warm blanket, sleeping bag (no air mattresses for students) • FOOD: simple breakfast for ride; sack lunch for picnic on Tuesday; non-sticky snacks; drinks with closable tops – NO STRAWS – NOTHING WITH PEANUTS OR NUTS • OTHER ITEMS: Sunscreen; video Game Players; CD Players with headphones and APPROPRIATE music/games; camera; money- suggested amount for snacks/souvenirs - $25.00 • Students are responsible for EVERYTHING they bring
No Peanuts or Nuts, Please! We have several students with severe peanut/nut allergies. In order to ensure their safety, we are asking that no snacks or foods be brought that contain peanuts/nuts or are made with peanuts/nuts. Your cooperation is appreciated!
Meals Tuesday, 5/6 • Breakfast/snacks on bus • Sack lunch, with drink, for Anastasia State Park • Dinner provided at Kennedy Wednesday, 5/7 • Breakfast is provided at Kennedy • Lunch – a $10 voucher will be provided for each student. This will buy Cheese Pizza or hamburger, cookie and drink at Moon Rock • Snacks for bus ride home – only snack food is allowed to be brought back on bus
Park Activities 5/6 Live Show - Astronaut Encounter! • Meet a real live astronaut. • Ask any questions you may have and get them answered by an astronaut.
Angry Birds Exhibit that includes: - Create Your Own Angry Bird and make a customized Angry Bird on a computer screen- Cold Cuts Tile Puzzle, where different levels of complex puzzles challenge guests- Eggsteriod Slingshot where launching small Angry Birds at pigs can score points.
Chaperone Duties • Students will be assigned a chaperone • Keep track of assigned students AT ALL TIMES (bus, state park, Kennedy, and park) • Chaperones will get teacher cell phone numbers on morning of departure • Pertinent information will be coming home to each chaperone next week
Chaperone Information • Time: Arrive at Buck Lake at 7:00 a.m. on 5-6-14. Be sure to park your car in the empty field lot. Please be on time. We leave school promptly at 7:30 a.m. The bus will leave Kennedy on 5-9-13 at promptly 1:30 pm for our return trip to Buck Lake. Our estimated arrival at school is 5:30 pm. The bus will have a DVD player for G-rated movies. • Bus: The bus has a restroom, so we will not stop unless the drivers need to take a break. Adults may get off briefly but no students are allowed to leave the bus. Students may bring game players or CD players as long as the games and/or lyrics are appropriate in nature. You may want to bring a pillow and blanket for the ride and sleeping overnight.
Chaperone Information, cont’d. • Food: Pack breakfast and/or snacks and enjoy it once we are underway or at any time during the trip. Additionally, you may bring a small soft sided cooler if you like.Before our departure home on 5-6, you may choose to eat dinner in the park or bring food with you to eat on the bus for dinner. • Safety: You will basically be responsible for your own child and two friends. Feel free to explore the park with another chaperone and student(s) if you’d like. Rides are allowed IF students are met by you at the exit or you may ride also. • Cleanup: Everyone will clean up the bus before getting off. Please make sure your child and others have picked up their trash.

Take Your Child to Work DayRead-a-Thon Thursday, May 8, 2014 If you student will be going to work with you, please send in the appropriate documents. If your student will be attending school, please send a beach towel, pillow and books to read for our read-a-thon
Sock Hop and Completion Celebration • Volunteers are needed to help decorate, provide food, etc. • Sign up sheets are located near the entrance to the media center. • Completion Celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28 • Sock Hop is scheduled for Thursday, May 29
