TRAITOR “He appeared to be a big Whig, But Paul Revere continued to dig” • obtained trust from many major patriots/whigs, including George Washington • Paul Revere was first to suspect Dr. Church • treason was detected through a letter written to his brother; through this it was discovered he had been a spy for the British for a long time
In Court “In court he said he didn’t betray, he said he earned the big meals on his tray But Washington and other men, They didn’t believe Doctor Ben” • was tried in court with George Washington ruling in October 1775 • found guilty of “holding criminal correspondence with the enemy” • sent to jail, but 3 years later he was banished from the colonies
