  2. PACS Access Request Form • Your department should have one, and they are on the Radiology web site • Instructions are at the top of the form • Even if you were in medical school here, you will need to fill out a new request

  3. PACS Access • Once set up on PACS, you will be notified by email to call and get your login ID • When you log in, you will have to change your password (and every 30 days thereafter) • Please use strong passwords • Currently require 8-12 characters which can be upper/lower case, numbers and special characters

  4. Using PACS in the Institution • Purpose of PACS is to provide access to images when and where you need them • Reality in any hospital is that you need to find out the places you can access PACS

  5. Specifics • PACS Access • Centricity workstation interface • 6 Clinical, 15 Diagnostic – all dual head • Web interface • Utilize pc’s • 13 in ACC/W&C, 6+ in hospital

  6. Specifics • Areas Covered • “filmless” in hospital 2nd floor Radiology and ER, and Radiology in the FWCC and the ACC • Ancillary Imaging Systems • Separate mini-pacs in Ob/Gyn department • Separate Cardiology system • Separate dental system OMFS Clinic in ACC

  7. CD Based Image Distribution • We can produce DICOM CD’s with patients exams to take offsite • Make request at file room • DICOM CD’s being brought to us • Should be able to read them on any relatively new pc for immediate access (autorun), different viewers • Take to file room to request images be added to PACS (patient must be registered), can’t import all images • These CDs must be kept confidential, and they must be appropriately archived and destroyed • Working on a better way to handle outside exams

  8. Training • I can provide training for both workstation and web in groups • Contact me to schedule a time slot, or to come to your conference • Basic training 30 min

  9. HIPAA • Be aware of HIPAA and LSUHSC-S policies regarding privacy and confidentiality. • The PACS does provide audit logs to track user access in the system. • If you let someone use your login to access records, the audit log will show YOU accessing them.

  11. Statewide RIS/PACS We are currently in the process of implementing a statewide LSU hospital integrated RIS/PACS system. Will upgrade Shreveport to latest Centricity version in October, full statewide implementation next year. Don’t quote me.
