PTSA Awards • Golden Acorn State PTA award presented to a volunteer in recognition of his/her dedication and service to children and youth. • Outstanding Advocate State PTA award presented to an individual for continued and dedicated service to ALL children, and a demonstrated commitment to helping create strong policies relating to the health, welfare, safety, and education of children and youth. • Outstanding Educator State PTA award honoring an outstanding educator who has made significant contributions. Election of Officers Article 5, Sec. 6 of the WSPTA Uniform Bylaws- Officers and Their Election • Each local PTA and council shall have at least four elected officers: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Other officers may be specified in the local PTA or council standing rules. • The local PTA and council officers shall be elected by ballot prior to the end of the fiscal year for a term of one year and until their successors are elected. A majority vote is necessary to elect. If only one candidate is nominated for an office, the candidate shall be declared elected. • A member may not serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office. An officer having served eight or more months shall be considered to have served a full term. • Officers shall assume their duties on July 1 in the year elected. • To be elected to office in a local PTA, a person shall be at least 18 years of age. The person shall have been a member of any local PTA for at least 15 days preceding the election. Persons joining at the organizational meeting of a new local PTA shall be entitled to privileges of membership including voting and election to office. • Each officer of a local PTA shall be a member of that local PTA. Fundraising • February Boxtops Contest We collected 6,606 Box Tops and 1,669 Labels for Education! • Team Up! Auction • $70,000 raised for technology, enrichment, art & math • 245 Attendees – over 30% increase from 2014 • Raise the Paddle raised $19,600 for laptops & carts • ASB items raised $5,980 General Membership Meeting – 3/24/2016

Outreach • Parent Education Two events coming up: April 26th– Social Lives of Elementary Girls by Teenwise Seattle & May 12th – Emotional Competence by Dr. Janice Driver • Staff Appreciation WeekMay 9-13 Watch for emails from room parents regarding specifics • Emergency Preparedness Restocked emergency kits and added lanterns & flashlights with funds from Orange Ruler. Held preparedness event on Feb. 3rd. • Lunch for the Break District wide initiative in cooperation with the Issaquah Food Bank – check out the website to donate or sign up for benefits General Membership Meeting – 3/24/2016
School Bond • $533.550 million school bond to be on ballot on April 26, 2016 • Deadline to register to vote March 28 • Ballot mailed April 6, arrive by April 7-8 • Remind your friends, family & neighbors to vote. Send ballots to kids away at college. Make sure new voters (i.e., just turned 18) are registered. • Need 60% YES Vote to pass this bond
School Bond • How you can help • Volunteers for Issaquah Schools (VIS) • Sign up for a honk & wave (April 7 or 25) • Sign up to distribute postcards in the Highlands (April 2-9 or April 17-24) • Share “VOTE YES” message on your social media channels
School Bond • Why now? • Schools overcrowded & student population has grown and will continue to grow. • Available land for schools increasingly scarce. Now is time to secure land and prepare. • Cost? • ISD has highest bond rating = borrow funds at lower interest rate. • School tax rate will not increase. Bond sales structured and timed so rates remain level.
