DCSD Grading Protocol • Student grades are expected to reflect an appropriate amount of curriculum assessment. There should be a balance of grades in each category to support appropriate assignments based on units of study. • Four Components • Pre-Assessment • Assessment During Learning • Guided, Independent, or Group Practice • Summative/Assessment of Learning • Context is key
Pre-Assessments & Assessment During Learning Pre-Assessment (0% of grade) Assessment During Learning (25% of grade) • Formal (Universal Screener, SLO Pre-test) • Informal • Skills assessment • Quiz • Project
Guided, Independent, or Group Practice & Summative Assessment Guided, Independent, or Group Practice (45% of grade) Summative Assessment (30% of grade) • Classwork • Project • Homework • Test • Culminating Project or Performance • Final or Culminating Exam
EOCT • If the course requires an End-of-Course Test (EOCT), the EOCT will weigh 20% of the student’s final grade. The remaining 80% of the student’s grade is determined by the final average in the course.
Speaking of the EOCT… As a comprehensive Assessment Program, the Georgia Milestones is designed to provide: • consistent expectations and rigor to position Georgia students to compete with peers nationally and internationally, • consistent signal about student preparedness for the next level, be it the next grade, course, or college/career, • consistent signal about student achievement both within system (across grades and courses) and with external measures (NAEP; PSAT; SAT; ACT).
Goodbye EOCT…Hello EOC • EOG/EOC replaces the CRCT and EOCT. • EOG – Grades 3 -8 / EOC – Grades 8* - 12 • CTB-McGraw – Hill is the vendor for both tests. • The 3rd, 5th and 8th Grade Writing Test Eliminated (last year for GHSWT Main Administration) • Both EOG and EOC will include Constructed Response and Extended Response test items. • Technology Expectation • 30% Year 1 • 80% Year 3 • 100% Year 5
Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader? Tanya played a computer game in which the score was calculated using the equation where s is the score, t is the number of points Tanya earned, and c is the number of points her computer opponent earned. Tanya recorded her scores for one week on the number line shown in the diagram. The winner is determined by the highest score. Part A: On Tuesday, Tanya’s computer opponent scored 33 points. How many points did Tanya score? Explain your answer or show your work. Part B: On which day were the scores of Tanya and the computer the closest, but not the same? Who won that day? Explain your answer. Part C: Explain what Friday’s score means about the number of points Tanya and the computer earned. Justify your answer using words and a mathematical statement. Part D: On which day(s) did Tanya win? Using t and c, write a mathematical statement to support your answer.
