Dementia Project Background • Screening programme & training in existence for 8-9 years • Adults with LD/ Downs Syndrome • Difficulties – baseline information • Importance of early detection & care pathway • In line with Valuing People and NICE/SCIE guidelines on dementia
Dementia project Aims • Extend provision of screening • LD- over 40 yrs • Downs Syndrome/ others- over 30 yrs • This includes developing care pathway • Extend provision of dementia awareness training
Extend provision of screening • Clinical work: • Direct/ indirect assessment including capacity, intervention strategies, longer term input • Referrals to psychogeriatrician/neurologist/ psychiatrist • Recruitment/ training of assistant psychologist • Expansion of database • Identifying potential new service users to whom screening can be offered • Contact with day centre managers
Extend provision of screening • Leaflet/ promotion of screening programme: • ‘Celebrating the good stuff’ event • Planned promotion at Service User network conference on health and wellbeing
Extend provision of screening • Development of pathway • Agreed initial plan • Identified need for MDT input • Liaison with other professionals
Extend provision of dementia awareness training • Leaflets/ promotion • PCT trainers meeting/ promotion • Liaison with other teams who provide training • Revised existing training pack

Autism Project Aims • Support development of knowledge and skills re: ASD in BPR • Support delivery and implementation of training scheme for BPR • Identify issues common to provider services • Provide direct interventions to clients in BPR
Support development of knowledge and skills • Training Needs Analysis • Questionnaire to preferred providers • Across East Lancs • Included current training levels • Training needs identified by services • Identified need for awareness training
Support delivery of training • Co-ordination of multi-agency team (East Lancs) • Developed awareness training pack • Liaison with NAS • Organised and promoted training • 4 training dates across BPR & Blackburn • Agreed plan- • Review after 4 dates • Consider delivering advanced 2-day course already piloted
Support delivery of training • Developed knowledge and attributions questionnaires for pre, post and 6 month follow up (FU) measures • Agreed to use ‘Action Plan’ data at 6 month FU • Set up databases for data management • Recruitment and training of assistant psychologist
Support delivery of training • Team have delivered 2 training days • 42 people trained • Excellent feedback • Data from measures not yet analysed • Data from ‘Action Plans’- • in process of being collected • team involvement
Identify issues common to provider services • Model used has been adopted by Primary Care – Asperger’s Syndrome Service. • Steering group • Longer term links • Issues highlighted via combination of: • Training needs analysis • Action Plans • Referral trends/ clinical workload • Links with other services- via NW CP ASD Network
