  1. Carroll Edward Cole BY: Joshua Harvey

  2. Carroll Edward Cole • He was born on May 9, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa. • He died on December 6, 1985 at the age of forty seven.

  3. Childhood His father fought in World War II, leaving him to be raised by his mother. His mother often beat him and forced him to watch her have sexual encounters with other men. Even when his dad was home he would still get beaten and whipped by his mother, who he hated.

  4. Childhood Cont. His mother often made him dress up in women's clothing for the amusement of his mothers friends. He grew up with a deep hatred toward women, especially his own mother.

  5. Childhood Cont. He was often picked on at school for having a woman's name, so he often went by his middle name, Eddie. Even with a stunning 152 IQ, he struggled through school, earning a D+ average.

  6. Personality • He was a drifter • He was depressed and tried to commit suicide a few times • He was a very heavy drinker • He hated women

  7. Psychopath On a number of occasions he put himself into a mental hospital, where he confessed his fantasies of murdering women. Even though he was diagnosed as a psychopath, he was released several times from the hospital. His disorder was said to be untreatable by psychiatrists at the time.

  8. His first murder At the age of nine, he drowned a fellow classmate who made fun of him. The murder was dismissed and written off as an accident. He later confessed to killing the young child.

  9. Downhill Start As a young adult, he was arrested several times for drunkenness and theft. After dropping out of high school, he joined the Navy, but was kicked out for the theft of pistols. He used those pistols to fire aimlessly at random cars riding on the San Diego highways.

  10. Marriage After being discharged from the mental hospital, he moved to Dallas, Texas and immediately marring an alcoholic prostitute. The relationship was a failure, filled with constant fights, beating each other, and the occasional resort to using weapons. He got angry and set the motel they were staying in on fire and was sent to jail for arson charges.

  11. Re-Marriage He married again to Bonnie Stewart. In August, 1979, he strangled his own wife and dumped her nude body in an alleyway. The death was written off as a “natural” death related to her own abuse of drinking.

  12. Murders He murdered a woman named Essie Buck, who he picked up at a tavern in San Diego, on May 7, 1971. he strangled her in his car and drove around with her until eventually dumping her body. Only about two weeks later he killed another woman and dumped her body in the woods.

  13. Jail Time • He was jailed for arson charges • Jailed for the attempted murder of an eleven year old, Virginia Rowden • Arrested on a charge of auto theft, but was dismissed I am in jail for arson charges?!?!?!

  14. Confession In the later part of 1980, he killed three more women, and was arrested for suspicion of killing the third woman. When taken into custody, he confessed to killing at least fourteen women over the past nine years.

  15. Confession Cont. He stated that it could have been more but he could not remember because he was usually drunk when committing his crimes. Carroll Cole’s Mug shot

  16. Death Carroll Cole was sentenced to death and was executed in Nevada on December 6, 1985 by lethal ejection.

  17. Opinion I think he got what he deserved, but I think it was a very bumpy road and I do not understand how he kept getting released from jail to keep killing people. Also, a lot of his murders were written off as accidents or not his fault and a lot of his charges were dismissed for some odd reason. Overall, I think the police system was very sloppy and should have kept him in jail for life for the first person he killed.
