Questions? Q1. What is TIA TR-48? Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Engineering Committee TR-48 Draft Scope (agreed at organizational meeting, August 26, 2007) The TR-48 Engineering Committee on Vehicular Telematics is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards relating to vehicular telematics equipment and services. These standards are intended to be employed by in support of vehicular telematics. The TR-48 shall work with other TIA committees, national and international standards organizations, and other relevant entities to ensure work items are necessary and not duplicative. Meetings primarily conducted through teleconferences and physical meetings at TIA, Arlington, VA, information on TIA home page. Principal interests represented include: ComCare emergency response capability and commercial vehicle telematics.
Q2. What is ISO TC204 WG17, Nomadic Devices? Agreed during inaugural meeting, March 12, 2008, title to include, “Use of nomadic and mobile devices to support ITS service and multi-media provisions in vehicles and for travelers” Draft Scope PWI 10992, Preliminary investigation to identify the standardization requirements to enable nomadic devices as interfaces to support ITS service provisions and multi-media use into vehicles. The work to include the identification of which types of nomadic devices can be enabled to support ITS service provision; the identification of suitable extant standards and protocols; the identification of any new interface protocol standards required and guidance as to the types of ITS service that may be suitable to be supported via nomadic devices. Proposed WG17 Scope and proposed work items will be circulated to the WG members before the April 2008 ISO TC204 Plenary determined at the inaugural meeting and to present results of the PWI at the April ISO TC204 Plenary for confirmation. Dr Moon, Korea National Body, served as WG17 Convenor and Secretariat Next meeting of WG17 is proposed to be held in conjunction with the ISO TC204 Plenary, Ottawa, ON, Canada, November 10-12, 2008.
