  3. Transforming Adult Social Care Quality of Life – Quality of Services The Government is clear and has set a challenge to transform Adult Social Care Greater no. of people Increased choice & control Putting People First Focus on Outcomes Personalisation

  4. Excellence and Continuous Improvement Salford City Council & NHS Salford are both currently rated excellent Not achieved in isolation Involvement of Service Users and Carers Partnership working Focus on Outcomes for Salford People Use of Support Plans rather than Care Plans

Excellence and Continuous Improvement • Salford City Council and Health Services will continue to strive for excellence and value for money across all services delivered in Salford. • We want services which support people to be independent, maximise their life chances and give them the best possible Outcomes • Therefore we want all our providers to be striving for excellence in the services provided for Salford people

  6. Objectives To raise the standards across the market place in terms of Care Planning, Nutrition and Administration of Medication in Care Homes registered in Salford.

Engagement and Delivery Initiative is a starting point to review and improve the services offered, specifically in terms of Care Planning, Nutrition & Medication We all know that performance improvements are about ownership, leadership and management Engagement is the key to understanding & agreeing common aims & strategic objectives

  9. Engagement and Delivery • We have asked all Mangers and Owners to be visible and take an active role in the delivery of our objectives to secure • Improved quality • Better Outcomes • System of Continuous Improvement

  10. Model for Improvement Communication and collaborative working are the key Share the knowledge – through-out the marketplace Identify Best Practice – which works in practice! Deliver the best possible service to Salford residents Provide value for money

Next Steps • Presentations from each of 6 groups 11th May 2010 • What they have learnt • What they have changed • What went well • What didn’t go so well • Recommendations • Action plan for each care home • Salford Quality framework • Phase 2 Providers - remaining 14 providers so that we have had 100% engagement

  13. Measures of success - Engagement • Almost 90% representation of those care homes invited • 51 invited guests & 17 representatives from SCC & Salford PCT • Demonstrates commitment, enthusiasm & determination to excel

  14. Feedback • Providers recognised the initiative provided real business opportunities • Positive and productive day we need to capitalise on going forwards • Enjoyment & real buzz in room on the day

When we have succeeded • All Care Homes Registered in Salford will be meeting or exceeding the Key National Minimum Standards ratings for Care Planning, Nutrition and Medication • These improvements will not be achieved in isolation they will have positive benefits across the range of performance standards you are measured against • Continue to strive to have all Care Homes in Salford classified as 3* Excellent rated providers by CQC

  16. Key Messages Several years ago the market was relatively immature, customers were constrained by capacity. Increasingly we have capacity, flexibility and choice. Service Users & their advocates will be increasingly demanding Exciting time to be involved, every provider large & small has a part to play Going forward we are very clear choice will be on the basis of quality and value for money Programme is all about results which you need to deliver
