  2. Who takes the EOC Online test this school year? • *High Stakes for first time 9th graders in 2010-2011 taking Geometry and/or Biology • All students enrolled for credit in any of the specified • courses – regardless of their enrolled grade or graduation requirement • (GEE) – are required to take the EOC test upon completing the course.

  3. Should a student be able to pass a course after failing the EOC test for that course? • EBR District Policy – Students can pass the course without passing EOC. Achievement Levels: • Excellent—Passing • Good—Passing • Fair—Passing • Needs Improvement—NOT Passing

  4. What are the State Graduation Requirements? • Students are required to score FAIR or above on EOC English II or III, Algebra I or Geometry, and Biology or American History to be eligible for a standard High School Diploma. • Needs improvement is NOT a passing score.

  5. What happens if a student does not score FAIR or above on the EOC test? • If a student does not score FAIR or above, the student must retake the EOC test unless the student has scored FAIR or above on the other course in the EOC pair: Algebra I or Geometry, English II or English III, and Biology or American History. • Students will be allowed to retest in Summer, Winter, and Spring of each school year.

  6. What happens if a student fails to earn the Carnegie unit for a course but scores FAIR or above on the EOC test? • The student must retake the course, either by repeating the whole course or through credit recovery. At the completion of the course, that student will take the EOC test again. If the student does not score FAIR or above, the student would retain the higher achievement level as defined by the Double Jeopardy rule, in Bulletin 118.

  7. What are the testing dates for the Spring 2011 test administration? • April 28 – May 25, 2011 (These are DOE revised dates.) What is the suggested testing time for each EOC test? The EOC tests are not timed; however, they are designed to be administered using the following approximate times: Algebra I Session 1: 40 minutes Session 2: 20 minutes Session 3: 40 minutes Geometry Session 1: 40 minutes Session 2: 20 minutes Session 3: 40 minutes English II/III Session 1: 45 minutes (*Writing Prompt) Session 2: 40 minutes Session 3: 40 minutes Biology Session 1: 40 minutes Session 2: 20 minutes Session 3: 40 minutes

Characteristics of Test Items for both Algebra I and Geometry • Multiple Choice items • assess knowledge, conceptual understanding, and application of skills • 1 point • Constructed-response items • require students to compose an answer; generally these items require students to develop an idea, demonstrate a problem-solving strategy, or justify an answer based on reasoning or evidence • scored on a 0-2 point scale Algebra I Assessment Guide Page 1 Geometry Assessment Guide Page 1

Algebra I EOC Online Test Tools • inch ruler • centimeter ruler • protractor • scientific calculator - Students may use a hand-held calculator (graphing or scientific) on the sessions that allow calculator use. Students may not use calculators with Computer Algebra Systems or other symbolic manipulation capabilities. • Practice using similar tools is provided on Louisiana Pass at www.louisianapass.org and by going to the EOC online demonstration site at https://eocdemo.louisianaeoc.org • No reference sheet will be available, items that require a formula not typical of an Algebra I course will include the formula in the item.
