Catapult design process Bradlee Cruise 3b Ms. Fitzpatrick
Define the problem The class was tasked with constructing a wooden catapult capable of tossing a clay ball
Brainstorm I know the catapult must be constructed using screws to ensure its stability
Identify criteria and specify strengths The catapult must be made of woodMust be stableMust be able to fling a small ballCannot be may using a pre-made kit
Explore possibilities I know I can use a rubberband on the catapult to ensure its powerful. Also rubberbands are more durable than strings.
Select an Approach Make a wooden catapult with wood pieces binder together with screws and a rubberband to power it.
Test and Evaluate the design using specifications The catapult was successful and the only problem was the rubberband snapped which can easily be replaced
Redefine the design I simply replaced the snapped rubberband
Solution My design was very successful and was in compliance with all criteria
Results The catapult was very durable and had power exceeding that of many other catapults
