  2. Original Use • Extend telephone service to mining and other operations in remote, mountainous areas of Benewah and Shoshone County Idaho from St Maries, Idaho • Cost approximately $18,000

  3. History • Mining operations closed or migrated to other communications media • Owner/provider had no use for equipment • Had to remove from customer and relay sites • Could not sell locally • Needed space • Was given Vic Bak as a point of contact • Vic accepted for free on behalf of MARA NW

  4. Original Intentions • Establish LDS-owned repeater Spokane storehouse • Use to link repeater with an LDS owned repeater near Smyrna, WA (Mattawa Ridge) • Intermediate relay point on Wellpenit Mountain on reservation near Ford, WA • Mel Martin (N7BCY – SK) had good contacts with Wellpenit tribe from former employment

  5. What Happened? • The sudden and very unexpected death of Mel ended this endeavor as well as some intended MNW 6 meter testing and experimentation • No market for this equipment in Inland NW • Better prospects for sale in Puget Sound area • Equipment just relocated to Sammamish, temporarily in custody of K7CXJ
