Who we are Opus Foods is US Based, sales, marketing, logistics and financing company providing high quality processed frozen fruit to North American food, dairy and beverage companies. We have broad experience in the sourcing, procurement and logistics management of frozen fruit grown and processed by strategic partners located throughout the world with a specific emphasis on the Mexican fruit processing industry. We provide our customers reliable, transparent high quality frozen fruit from supervised packers that meet the growing needs of the market for truly managed fruit procurement. The commitment to our clients is to offer them fruit products that meet their highest safety, taste and quality standards. Opus Foods, manages, on behalf of our customers, the agronomy, processing, packing, transportation and warehousing of fresh frozen fruit from the field to the customer. This, thereby, assures full supply chain control, from traceability and transparency of the agronomy practices to the reliability of the processing of the fruit with our exclusive managed Packers. We handle all logistics and quality performance of our fruit Packers located in Mexico, Central and South America. We have offices in Minneapolis, MN and Zamora, Mexico
TECHNOLOGY AND MANUFACTURING PROCESSES We have qualified expert agronomy and fruit packer production personal located close to the field. Because of our proximity to the growing regions, we can provide ongoing pack production support, including field supervision, application record management and reconciliation and packer production supervision to insure that our customers exacting product specifications are met We manage the fruit from the growing in the field thru the moment of arrival at the packer. Our quality control and agronomy team ensures that the highest levels of hygiene, quality and fruit conditions are met throughout the growing and production process. No other fruit supplier can provide our level of crop supervision thereby assuring our customers of full traceability and transparency of the supply chain
- Field Management - We maintain daily supervision in the strawberry fields, conducted by a highly qualified team of agronomists. All strawberries delivered to our packers are fully supervised thereby assuring that all fruit meets all regulatory, safety and customer product specifications. Our agronomists; - We oversee the cultivation of the plants at all stages of growth - We provide and support our growers with leading edge agricultural technology such as: - Macro tunnels - Bedding - Drip Irrigation - Deep well water - Best practices in pesticide application - Effective, timely and accurate pesticide, water and microbiological testing - We adhere to strict management of the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), working in conjunction with Senasica and Primus Labs - We support the use of Good Harvesting Practices, facilitating the implementation certified harvest crews program performed by Senasica and Primus Labs - We provide technical assistance during the planting, growing and harvesting of the crop - We assure the use of only those pesticides authorized by the FDA and Ciclopafest - We supervise the short transportation distances of the fruit from the field to the packer for better, more consistent product quality - We assure that the fruit is processed and frozen, the same day that is picked.
- Certification • All our packers currently meet all quality and hygiene specifications required by each of our customers. To comply with these requirements, our packers carry the following certifications: • - AIB HACCAP Certification • - Kosher Certification • Quality System • -SQF • All pesticides used by our suppliers are approved by the EPA and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, and have the Primus Lab third party audit certification.
- Facilities Opus Food’s access to the best packers in the industry provides a significant competitive advantage for its customers in the marketplace. The packers that Opus Foods represents posses the latest generation processing equipment and technology, including the largest and most technologically advanced IQF tunnel and pre-cooling systems in the industry. This technology guarantees the best product quality in the market. Additionally, combining the technological sophistication of our packers with access to fruit nearly year round, provides our customers with the ultimate of flexibility: the ability to order what our customers want, when they want it, in the form they need almost at any point throughout the year. In conjunction with our packers, we are able to produce frozen fruit nearly year round. - Production Personnel Our packer production personnel are experienced food and fruit processing professionals, who have years of experience working in the fruit processing industry. They clearly understand the needs of our customers and thus can easily meet all the expectations, specifications and quality standards of our customers. Forourclients For our customers, Opus Foods, manages the agronomy, processing, packing, traceability, logistics and quality performance of the company’s fruit suppliers located Mexico, Central and South America.
Agronomy and Pesticide Management • Opus Foods field team manages the field fruit production practices and monitors the control of the field practices from those select growers who are producing the fruit destined to our packers. This agronomy and field management assures our customers full visibility, transparency and traceability on all fruit grown to support the contracted volumes with our select packers. • 2. Provide our customers, during the crop, as required or requested all field application results and ongoing verification that the grower is harvesting fruit that meets all USDA and FDA regulatory requirements as well as Customer specifications for fruit grown in Mexico, Central and South America and destined to the US markets. • 3. Provide Customers with a comprehensive year end crop report, summarizing the results of the crop and the fruit produces under contract. • 4. Conduct year round, and particularly during the crop, testing on irrigation water and vegetation for microbiological contamination and assurance that all food safety measures have been applied to the growing of the crop and that the processed fruit will be processed in full accordance with and conformance to all applicable GFSI standards • 5. Full field traceability is essential to the effective management of the procurement of agricultural products, particularly those commodities that are sources from countries and regions outside the US. Opus Foods, with our extensive experience and relationships in these agricultural regions provides our customers with the assurance that their food safety is being proactively and rigorously managed to their specifications.
Packer Production and Logistics Management • 1. Manage all packer production against the Customers contracted volumes and identify, communicate and resolve, in accordance with Customer decisions, any issues that arise during the production. a. Conduct daily/weekly packer plant inspections during production. • b. Supervise the pack, as requested or required by the customer • c. Ensure that all fruit packed meets Opus Foods customer’s needs and specifications • d. Audit all quality control results at the packer to assure compliance with specifications • d. Conduct random inspection of each fruit per customer product and packaging specifications • e. Provide weekly production reports updating the production status • 2. Obtain, translate and forward the results of all grading and QA testing on all customer produced fruit. • Send all results weekly to customer • b. Additionally, assure that all fruit produced is as per specification, at the time of pack and shipment
Packer Production and Logistics Management 3. Identify packers that meet customer requirements. Negotiate sourcing, quality performance requirements and formalize the packer contracts for the crop year for the customer 4. Coordinate the shipment of all fruit from the respective customer approved packer from the packers plants in Mexico, Central or South America, as the case may be, using agreed to transportation carriers, to the designated plant or warehouse in the US, ensuring on time, on budget and in specification delivery of the fruit to the customer designated locations 5. Managed any customer quality control claims, as the case may be, as a result of a non performance or non conformity in the use of the packer’s product throughout the year 6. Manage the importation of the fruit from the packer location to the designated customer locations assuring that the paperwork, custom clearance, and all import administrative requirements are satisfactorily met and all shipments are efficiently and effectively shipped cross border 7. Resolve any logistics related issues on all shipments and assure a LIFO inventory shipment process for the customer 8. Reconcile and communicate all inventories, production volumes and shipments against contracted volumes.
Audit Results Follow Up • Follow up on all quality audits results, recommendations and all non compliance issues • a. Assure that all non compliance issues are satisfactorily resolved in a timely and effective manner • b. Provide our customers Quality Department with the audit follow up findings • c. Support all customer packer audits as required • 2. Alert the customer on any regulatory changes that could affect the performance of the fruit or • ability tp continue to source product from the packer of from the region/country • Provide customer with any issues that could compromise the quality of the fruit being produced for the customer
Market Support 1. We will provide an assessment of the market conditions, including pricing, volumes, yields, competitor movements, quality issues, fresh market impacts, that will provide Opus Foods Customers with a full understanding of the field and packing operation conditions in Mexico, Central and South America. 2. We will alert our Customers on any Mexico, Central or South America and/or US quality and regulatory requirement changes that could impact the ability of Opus Foods Customers to continue to receive high quality, properly priced and regulatory compliant fruit for their customers. 3. Opus Foods will serve as the sourcing, agronomy, quality and pack supervision liaison between the customer and the packer. 4.We will provide the general communication interface between the growing area, the packers and the customers.
New Packer Search • 1.Opus Foods provides the resources to search, identify and select those packers that produce product in accordance with the customers specifications. a. Includes preliminary market overview, identification of potential packers, packer visits and packer selection criterion. b. Opus Foods provides the customer with a local extension of its own supply chain organization thereby allowing a more efficient new packer sourcing selection, particularly given the often international location of packers • 2. Once the packer(s) are selected, provide the same services to that new managed as detailed above.
Comprehensive Solutions for Customer Sourcing Needs 1. Opus Foods provides the resources to the customer that goes beyond a traditional broker/sales organization. a. Identification and selection of packers that fully meet customer expectations and specifications b. Confirm allocated capacity of the necessary volume required to meet the customer demands c. Negotiate a fully loaded “landed” cost of the fruit to the customers plant d. Audit the packer to assure that the facility meets all customer and regulatory requirements e. Provide full in the field agronomy support f. Supervise the packer production of the contracted volume for the customer g. Assure that all product documentation needed to import the product is complete, accurate, timely and in compliance with all import regulations ‘ h. Assume the operational, legal and financial obligation to produce and ship the product to the customers designated location I. Establish, manage and report a packer specific production control plan including sampling and reporting processes and procedures to assure full transparency and traceability of the fruit production including full compliance with all food safety requirements and regulations j. Directly manage the packing, loading and shipment of all contracted volumes pr fruit from the packer to the designated customer ship to locations k. Warehouse fruit, per contract, if required to support just-in-time delivery of product to the customers plant l.
