  1. High Level Data Productsat the IRIS DMC Tim Ahern, IRIS Director of Data Services Rick Benson, IRIS Director of Operations

  2. What is a data product? In the broadest sense products are data, from raw data to derivative results to high level knowledge summaries spanning entire scientific information domain. EarthScope/USArray data product levels: 0: Raw continuous and event-segmented data 1: Quality controlled data 2: Products derived from data using accepted methods 3: Products needing technical analysis & interpretation 4: Products integrating geological/geophysical data

  3. Product Levels – Adapted from National Research Council Committee on Data Management and Computation (CODMAC) LEVEL 4 Integrated Research Products LEVEL 3 Seismological Research Products LEVEL 2 Derived Information Standard Processing LEVEL 1 Quality Controlled Data LEVEL 0 Raw Data

  4. The IRIS DMS data product effort Mission: produce level 2 data products and manage products at all levels to provide: • Stepping stones (pre-processing) for further research • Insight into the data for selection and E&O • Direct interpretation for confirmation, etc. • Bridges to other disciplines, exporting seismological observations Community guidance via a Data Products Working Group http://www.iris.edu/dms/products/

  5. USArray Ground Motion Visualizations • M7+ 3D version • M6+ Z version • Credits: • Manoch Bahavar • Chuck Ammon • Bob Woodward http://www.iris.edu/dms/products/usarraygmv/

  6. USArray Ground Motion Visualizations 3 component movies http://www.iris.edu/dms/products/usarraygmv/

  7. Event Plots • For M6+ events: • Station maps • Record sections • Coda stacks • Vespagrams • Credit: Alex Hutko http://www.iris.edu/dms/products/eventplot/

  8. Record Section via Stacks

  13. SPUD: data product access The DMC’s Searchable ProdUct Depository (SPUD) is the primary access point for non-time series data products. Credit: Rich Karstens

More and future data products http://www.iris.edu/dms/products/ • EarthScope Automated Receiver Survey • USArray magnetotelluric transfer functions • USArray phase picks • WWSSN film chip images • Earth Model Collaboration: tomographic model repository, etc. • Nearly ready for release • Princeton synthetics • PBO displacement time series

  16. In consideration: after shock sequences

  17. Be part of the process DMS data product home: http://www.iris.edu/dms/products/ • Suggest data products • Provide feedback on existing products • Contact the Data Products Working Group, DMS Standing Committee or DMS staff
