Start by folding your page – leave about 2/3 of right margin Leave a wide left margin so you can write extra info or reorganize notes. DATE each day of information! Write down definitions for any terms you don’t know. Show important info by indenting, enlarging, underlining, and/or using different color ink. Use the LEFT margin to pull out key words & create quiz questions NOTE TAKING TIPS

Manifest Destiny, Westward Expansion, captive narratives to modern day Star Trek “the Final Frontier” – literature reflects this fascination • Applies to literature – American Literature is fixated on the “experience” of renewal that happens when characters cross into “savage” frontier • Example in class: City Slickers – urban renewal Who originated the Frontier Thesis? What is this thesis and how does it apply to literature? Example of what you’ll be doing during this lecture!!!!
