  2. Science Overview • Objectives: • 1. To make science a life long learning adventure. • 2. To gain skills necessary to flourish in modern society. • 3. To understand major concepts of science and apply them in appropriate ways. • 4. To use processes of science to answer questions. • 5. To have fun!

  3. These two essential Science skills are emphasized all year. Scientific Inquiry Engineering & Design Curriculum: The topics below represent a yearlong curriculum and are designed to meet the district guidelines and science learning targets:

  4. Earth Science The Earth in Space Earth’s structure Earthquakes Volcanoes Plate Tectonics Change over time Life science Classification Natural Selection Evolution Chemistry Atomic Model Periodic table Chemical changes Conservation of mass and energy

  5. Enrichment • Reading improvement within the core disciplines. • Research reading for Science fair • Research for Family history project • Reading required books for science and humanities • Goal setting and CIS

  6. Advisory Schedule: • 1st session : Current Events/ CNN • 2nd session: SSR (20 min. silent reading) • School business • Team building • Friday: Brain Games* • *would love to have some game donations!

  7. Miscellaneous • Brainy games gladly accepted • Please send a box of Kleenex and a ream of paper if you haven’t already • Reminders- cell phones off during school hours (please call office to get a message to your child) • Voluntary $5.00 science donation for labs • USB flashdrives highly recommended

  8. SUMMA • Depth and complexity through the infusion of higher order thinking into daily lessons • Intellectual peer stimulation • Curriculum differentiation, including freedom to be creative with open-ended assignments and activities
