Students’ suggestions • Look for a professional translator (freelancer or company/agency) • Request for quotation (pedido de orçamento) (number of words, deadline, topic, send a sample, software/application, TRADOS/SDL) • Answer/quotation by translator/company • Negotiation • Send confirmation to translator/send supporting material (previous translations, Translation Memories, glossaries, company’s publications) • Receive product (translation) • (Feedback to translator) • Receive the bill and pay Elena Zagar Galvão - ITS - FLUP 2007

  4. What is translation for translators?(internal knowledge) An activity aiming at the production of a text. (Pym, Robinson) The process of receiving/handling requests (RFQ), doing specific translations (words, phrases, registers, special languages) research, using specific software, CAT tools, networking, terminology, editing, proofreading, delivering product, billing client, getting paid, following up on clients, etc. Elena Zagar Galvão - ITS - FLUP 2007

  7. Who are the translators? Read (or listen to) what Robinson says about translators on pp.26-27 of his book Becoming a Translator. Do you recognize yourselves in what he says?
