ERM/MTS STF proposal on formal Phy measurement framework Friedbert BerensVice Chair ERM TGUWB Presentation to ERM, July 2010
2 4 STF Presentation Wrap up Content 1 Introduction 3 Cooperations
Introduction State of the art: Non harmonized measurement procedures for different standards even in the same frequency band Interference mitigation techniques need to be covered in a common manner involving Phy and other layers Conformance measurements need to be comparable especially in relation to the R&TTE directive No general conformance measurement frame work and procedure exists 4 Wrap up 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present. 3
4 Wrap up STF Presentation • Different TCs and groups ETSI will joint expertise: • TC ERM • TC MTS • ETSI CTI • Will develop a full formal Phy layer conformance test framework starting from the Use cases, extracting requirements and developing conformance test specification with clear references to the requirements • Different Standard requirements in the same band need to be taken into account (e.g. EN 300 328 and EN 300 440, EN 302 065, RFID, PSME) • Additional potentially interested ETSI TCs: TCM2M, TCRRS, TC ITS 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present.
4 Wrap up STF Results • The STF will produce the following results: • A MTS ETSI Guide for a formal physical layer measurement framework • An ERM TR case study of the framework using e.g. • UHF EN 300 220 • EN 300 328 and EN 300 440 • 60GHz: EN 305 550 and EN EN 302 567 • UWB, RFID, PSME • Planning for framework maintenance and dissemination 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present.
4 Wrap up Framework Flow 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present.
4 Wrap up STF Workflow • 1. Overview over existing relevant standard in ERM and other ETSI TBs including DAA standards and SRD standards up to 246GHz • 2. Evaluate existing formal frameworks for the conformance test and the development of standards • 3. Develop and propose harmonized framework for phy conformance measurement based on the results of the initial two steps • 4. Initiate information flow towards ECC and other regulators • 5. Deploy the proposed method to a set of identified standards in a case study TR • 6. Document the procedures and templates in an ETSI Guide. • 7. Planning/proposal for maintenance/update of the framework 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present.
4 Wrap up STF Required expertise • General expertise in specification of test frame works and the deployment of formal methods • Expertise in spectrum sharing techniques including DAA, LDC, LBT, etc. • Expertise in RF measurements and RF conformance testing • Over all 4 to 5 Experts 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present.
4 Wrap up Cooperations • STF is joint work between TC ERM, TC MTS, and the ETSI CTI (Center for testing and interoperability) • General combined with domain specific expertise will allow for a reliable development of the planned ETSI Guide • TC ERM: • Standardizes various radio technologies • Expertise in physical layer conformance testing • TC MTS (Methods for Testing and Specification): • Standardizes generic frameworks, methodologies and notations • ETSI CTI: • Supports TCs in development of frameworks and methodologies, testing and validation 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present.
Conclusions The proposed STF will develop a ETSI Guide for the structured development framework of physical layer conformance test Structured flow form use cases over requirements to the final conformance test procedures Resulting conformance test should be harmonized in a single frequency band and allow for interoperability test between different devices Main target: Multi standard frequency bands like UWB, UHF SRDs, 2,4GHz ISM band and 60GHz A collection of example applications at the end of the STF will demonstrate the use of the procedure 4 Wrap up 2 3 1 Cooperations Introduction STF Present. 10
SCOPE of the Technical Group MTS The Technical Committee Methods for Testing and Specification (MTS) creates guidelines, frameworks, notations, and methodologies for specification and testing.
