    3. Trichomonas Protozoan Actively motile , slightly larger than a leucocyte Anaerobic TYPES Tr. Buccalis : normal inhabitant of mouth Tr. Hominis : normal inhabitant of anal canal and rectum Tr. Vaginalis : found in the vagina www.similima.com 3

    5. 20 % cases are asymptomatic Symptoms develop after 4 to 28 days after : a. sexual contact with infected person b. contact with infected material like towel or toilet etc. 70 % of cases show typical profuse frothy discharge Vaginal wall tender Pruritis & inflammation of vulva Multiple punctate strawberry spots on vaginal vault and portio vaginalis of cervix ( strawberry vagina ) Symptoms www.similima.com 5

    12. Based on clinical findings Microscopic examination of a smear of vaginal discharge treated with 10 % KOH solution Gram staining By culturing in Sabouraud’s agar in Nickerson’s medium www.similima.com 12
