IEEE 802.1ah Mode for Ethernet Over MPLSdraft-cao-pwe3-802.1ah-00.txt Wei Cao caowayne@huawei.com PWE3 WG, IETF67
Why Introduce 802.1ah to PWE3 • 802.1ah and PBT(Provider Backbone Transport) are emerging • Traffic Engineering • Simple and scalable • Deployment is forthcoming • Current PWE3 does not fully match the requirement for 802.1ah • NSP (Native Service Procedure) should be considered for .1ah
MPLS Network 802.1ah Domain 802.1ah Domain Core Switch NPE 1 NPE 2 UPE UPE 802.ah 802.ah PW Service Scenario of 802.1ah PW
More Consideration • By Introducing 802.1ah, PW may use B-Tag/I-Tag to play more roles: • PW Multiplexing B-TAG/I-TAG can be used to identify the PW, so multiple Ethernet PWs may be multiplexed through one pair of PW labels to reduce the number of MPLS label required. • MS-PW Switching one could map BVID into PW label for each switch domain, or may use I-SID for PW label switching.
Proposal of New Ethernet PW Mode • A new PW mode is defined: • Ethernet Tagged Mode, PW type 0x0004. • Ethernet Raw Mode, PW type 0x0005. • Ethernet 802.1ah Mode, PW type 0x001A(To Be Assigned) • Encapsulation compatibility: • There is no change on encapsulation defined in RFC 4448
Proposal of NSP for 802.1ah Mode • Interface Parameter LDP Sub-TLV • 0x0D(To Be Assigned) Requested PBB I-TAG Sub-TLV • 0x0E(To Be Assigned) Requested PBB B-TAG/I-TAG Sub-TLV • 0x0F(To Be Assigned) Requested I-TAG Filter Sub-TLV
