Marriage: one of the most important ritual in the oromo culture.1.They communicate by wearing special clothes 2. Siinqee (stick) left in front of the brides home to indicate to her parents the marriage discussion started.3. Mediators:
BIRTH • 1. Evening song: to indicate the child have been born in the neighborhood. • 2. Handura: the father’s gift to the newborn at birth, at the naming, and at the circumcisions. • 3. Naming of the newborn. E.g. Boru= morning, Qabale= born in cold season. for example BrouGodana means MrGodans son that was born in the morning.
DEATH • 1. When Oromo dies, he or she will become spirit. They attempt to contact them through ceremonies. • 2. These ancestral spirits appear to relatives in the form of flying animals. • 3. Oromo does not believe in hell and heaven. • If a person commits a sin, the society punishment while the person is alive.
Finally, the three most important events in the Oromo community marriage, birth of child, and the death of individuals are the base of everything in Oromo history. They use it to mark individuals’ birthday, to build the necessary project in the society. And they use for war and peace time decisions. They use for land management and other phenomena. It is the most important ritual that everything in that society based on.
