What is Social Business? According to Dr. Mohammad Yunus -Social business is a non-loss, non-dividend company designed to address a social objective within the highly regulated market place of today. It is distinct from a non-profit because the business should seek to generate a modest profit but this will be used to expand the company’s reach, improve the product or service or in other ways to subsidise the social mission. 7 principles of Social Business According to Dr. Muhammad Yunus & Hans Reitz Social Business works with 7 principles • Business objective will be to overcome poverty, or one or more problems (such as education, health, technology access, and environment) which threaten people and society; not profit maximization. • Financial and economic sustainability. • Investors get back their investment amount only; no dividend is given beyond investment money. • When investment amount is paid back, company profit stays with the company for expansion and improvement. • Environmentally conscious. • Workforce gets market wage with better working conditions. Criteria of a good business idea A good business idea consists of the following Criteria • Sustainability • Feasibility • Accessibility & affordability • Strong network of marketing • Vast market size • Substitution of product • Contribution to the society & country
Business Idea “Produce Wastilizer from community base collected household waste materials by Static Dynamic Shifting Stack System”
What is Wastilizer? • Wastilizer, an innovated Hybrid word which is originated from the word WASTE and FERTILIZER that defines the production of fertilizer from the waste materials. Waste Fertilizer WASTILIZER
Waste Management & Processing • Waste Generation • Commercial • Domestic • Industrial • Street sweeping • Health care facilities • Waste Disposal • Unsanitary crude damping • Separation • Separate the organic wastes • Storage • Temporary storage • Processing • Processing of the household waste materials. • Collection • Community bin system • Demountable container • House to house collection • Transportation • Open truck collection • Demountable truck Final output WASTILIZER
Organic Wastes • Fruit & Vegetables waste • Stake bread • Coffee grounds, filters, tea bags, tea leaves • Egg shells, nut shells • Hair & feathers • Green waste from the garden • Others
WASTILIZER Plant • Following diagram shows how the WASTILIZER plant will in operation by the method of Static Dynamic Shifting Stack System Organic wastes Shredders Trimalin macerator Screening the substances Storage/sale Output and processing Composting WASTILIZER Figure: Steps of Static Dynamic Shifting Stack System Source: URL: http// www.becon.eu
Feasibility • Fixed cost Source: Field Survey, 2012
Feasibility • Operational Cost Source: Field Survey, 2012
Feasibility • Earnings (per year) Source: Field Survey, 2012
WASTILIZER is feasible Revenue from the 1st year = 2,520,000 – 2,462,200 = 57,800 taka or $ 688 • This business plan is feasibly tested through the market analysis of 2011-2012 fiscal year in Chittagong and Khulna. The revenue grows positively from the very 1st year of its production if proper steps has been taken by the authority.

What is Accessibility? • Accessibility of a product defines its speedy and hollowness to the consumers. • Accessibility also encompasses the acceptance level of the product to the consumers.
Why WASTILIZER is Accessible? Farmers, who live in the villages Retailers, for the towns andsuburban areas Distributors for the Urban and city areas Depots for the Industrial areas and fringe areas Factory from where the WASTILIZER is produced
Why it is Affordable? • The Wastilizer as like as to the chemical fertilizer. So it is very familiar to them. • It is not so cost to produce and that is why it is cheap than chemical fertilizer. • It serves like chemical fertilizer though it needs much than chemical. But it needs not so much than chemical fertilizer. So everyone can carry it and use it easily.
Size of market • About 80% of our country’s land is used for Agriculture. • About 80% people of our country are engaged with agriculture directly and indirectly. • We have 142 million population and the area of our country is only 1,47,570 sq.km. so a lot of fertilizer need to meet the demand by importing it.
Size of market • Production and Import of Chemical Fertilizer by Type , 2006-07 to 2007 -08. (Figures in thousand metric tons) Source; Ministry of Agriculture. Note: *Other means Gypsum, NPKS & Zinc.
Substitute Products • Quality of organic manures varies widely, depending on the materials used. However, basic criteria to consider suitability of the material as a nutrient source are: • Organic matter content by weight: minimum 30% • Organic carbon content by weight: minimum12% • Total nutrients (N+ P2O5+ K2O) content by weight: minimum 5% (http://www.fao.org/agriculture/crops/core-themes/theme/spi/plantnutrition/fertspecs/en/, 2012). • So it can substitute almost all the chemical fertilizer.
Contribution to the society • The business have some objectives for better health, better environment and access to the technological advancement. • We see that everyone wants a dustbin but not in front of his house. • Dispose of waste needs low land and far from residential, institutional, parks, service centers. But it has some difficulties of spoil of water reservoirs, heavy cost for far distance and environmental pollution. • Waste materials are available and fertilizers are necessary and factories give some opportunities to the local labors and officers for economic sustainability. • We separate the wastes into solid wastes, plastic, polythene, paper, glass and chemical wastes. Without the solid waste, the extra earnings are used to expand the factory. • The Static Dynamic Shifting Stack System is environmental friendly according to the G-8 Countries and the products also.
Closed benefit circuit For a sustainable waste management system it is important to ensure profits for all STAKEHOLDERS (Public sector, Private sector, NGO’s, Communities…).
