WHAT SHOULD BE DONE UPON ARRIVING AT THE BALL PARK • Arrive 15 minutes before the start of your games. • Opening night 30 minutes is preferred • Arrange your work area with needed tools to get the job done. • Set up a place to score • Set out or have easily available the following • Score sheets • Line up cards • Rosters • Pens for teams to use on lineup and rosters • Call for lineups at least 10 minutes before start time
What would you do if you do not have an umpire show up? • Call your site supervisor • TALK TO BOTH COACHES and ask if they want to call their own GAME • Only those that have a contract with Salt Lake County can umpire, so pulling someone from the stands might not be a good idea = Liability! • If you are qualified you can umpire. • You will NOT be paid for both umpiring and scorekeeping.
When a problem comes up on another diamond near you, what should you do? • Nothing at the time • By interfering you could create a much bigger problem • Keep your ears open • If you can, keep your eyes checking out what is happening • When asked, give the assistance when needed • If asked, write up an incident report on what you heard and or saw
What should you do when a problem arises on your field? Stay calm Do NOT stir up more problems Write down the people who are involved and what they did After the game talk to the people involved and have an incident report filled out by ALL of them. Send the incident report to both the county and your site supervisor the next day. E-mail or text both Staci and site supervisor that night that there was a problem and details will be coming.
When do You Give the UMPIRES Their Voucher? • The voucher is given to the umpire at the end of the night. • If you are having more than one umpire, voucher should be given to the umpire when their replacement arrives. • Fill out a voucher • This is better done before you get to the ball park • Refer to section titled Time Sheet & Vouchers on how to fill out vouchers if you are in question.
