Cornell a Unique Private University • NYS land grant institution, with experiment station • Seven endowed colleges • Medical college in NYC and Qatar • Four colleges managed under contract with the State University of New York • Eight subsidiaries • 20,000 students • 10,000 faculty and staff • $2.5 billion annual expenses
Reality for Cornell • Started ERP implementations in 1995 • Original budget to implement all five major administration systems was spent on our first installation – HR/Payroll • Completed 2nd system in 2004 • Working on 3rd system – Student; implementation planned for FY08 • Financial systems were scheduled to be the last of the major ERP systems, not on the docket until 2011
Existing Financial System Situation • Online and batch Natural/ADABAS system developed in 1970’s • Data model flaws • System intended for central use only • Forces decisions based on system capabilities not “business” requirements • Poor use of current database technology
Implementation Plan • Utilize university project management office • Finalize new chart structure • Integrate a data delivery plan • Develop CU-KFS project plan • Big bang or phased • Targeted use of external services • Rice, KRA, etc. considerations
Delta CollegeLocated Stockton, CaliforniaBasic Demographics • Single-College District with the main campus providing 165.15 acres • Student headcount in fall 2006 was 20,472, with Internet-based class enrollment at 13% • Student Population consists of 59.9% females and 38.91% males • Population by Ethnicity in 2006: African-American - 10.6%; Asian/Pacific Islander - 20.51%; Hispanic - 26.71%; Other - 10.49%; White - 31.69% • Population by Age Group: 18 or younger – 17.22%; 19 – 13.66%; 20-24 – 30.93%; 25-29 – 12%; 35-39 – 7.6%; 40-49 – 8.37
