Of the Imam Ahmed bin Said, founder of Oman’s present day ruling family’ took Sohar as the first city of Oman, from which he ruled as Wali before becoming Imam, Rostaq was at this time another of Oman’s important cities. It was Hamad Said, however, grandson of the Imam Ahmed bin Said Al bousaidi and ruler of Oman between 1779 and 1792, who moved the capital from Rostaq to Muscat. Since that time Muscat has not been contested as capital and foremost city of Oman

  3. Here is Muscat in 1970 – no more than half a mile along its coastal length, set between the twin forts of Al Mirani and Jalali. Seeb Inter national Airport Seeb international Airport is an immediate testimont to the progress mad by Sultan and a crucial communication link with the outside world .It has undergone spectacular development and refurbishment over the past two years when work was completed on the new cargo terminal .This terminal ,which handles both inbound and outbound freight ,has a storage capacity of around one hundred thousand tones of goods ,in the terminal itself and in the open storage area to the building

  9. The Traditional Dhow Since time immemorial, Oman has been a seafaring nation. In fact, as far back as the 8th century, an Omani vessel reached Canton in China.The traditional dhew, also popularly known as Al Boum, Al Ghanjah, Shu'i, Al Badan, etc. which were used in trading, weathered stormed to reach ports in Iran, India, South-East Asia and further down the African coast in Zanzibar.Even today, the tradional dhew dots Oman's coasline, along with Fulk Esalamah, Zenat Al Behar and Sohar.

The Huri A small dug-out canoe, the Huri is normally between 10 and 20 feet in length.   it is generally used for fishing and short-haul transport. it is the most common small boat in Omani waters. Al Sambuq One of Oman's and the Arab world's most common sailing vessels, Al Sambuq   has a load capacity as varied as 20 to 150 tons. In the past, Al Sambuq was used for diving to collect pearls but now it is used for carrying cargo and transporting passengers. it can be found in the Saham and Sur regions.

  11. SNV Shabab Oman One of the largest wooden-hulled ships in the world, SNV Shabab Oman entered service in the Royal Navy of Oman in 1979 for use as a Sail Training Vessel. It has an overall length of 177 feet, a beam of 28 feet and a maximum draft of 15 feet.

Up until now there does not exist any official documentation referencing or preserving the traditional clothing throughout this fantastic nation.  Insha'allah, come soon such a publication will be available to the public as only a part of a huge project documenting the heritage of Oman.  We thank those who have given so much of themselves to make this possible. Not only is the heritage itself a treasure, so, too, are those who seek to preserve it
