Patient Scenario • Elderly diabetic and hypertensive patient come with his driver to the primary care clinic for follow up. He is on insulin injection and other 4 medications. what difficulty you might face to educate this patient?

Patient education Model • Establish the patient’ knowledge of the problem • Describe the problem • Establish the patient’ attitudes to the problem
continue • Correct any incorrect health beliefs • Supplement the patient’s existing knowledge to a level appropriate to the needs of the patient and the doctor
continue • Facilitation by the use of special charts, diagrams, models, investigation reports: - x. ray - growth chart - Audiogram
continue • Making patient understand what you say - Educational background - mental capacity • Reinforcement repetition of the information in the same or during subsequent consultation
continue • Learning by doing how? • Encourage the patient to participate in decision making and in accepting some degree of responsibility for his/her own management @ record body weight @ glucocheck @ B.P
