  1. The Festivals • Passover/unleavened bread • Jesus is our Passover lamb • Leaven represents sin. Jesus is unleavened; he is without sin. • Firstfruits (follows three days after Passover) • Jesus is the firstfruits of Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20, 22, 23) • Shavuot (Pentecost) • New covenant initiated with God’s people at Pentecost. Historically, it is taught that the decalogue was given on Shavuot

  2. The Festivals • Feast of Trumpets/New Year/Rosh HaShanah • A more serious hope for blessed new year • Also known as the Day of Judgment • Typical in a Jewish New Year card: “May you be inscribed (in the book of life) for a new year.” • Day of Atonement • Christ is our high priest presenting his own blood as a propitiation for our sins

  3. The Festivals • Sukkot /Feast of Tabernacles • Temporary booth setup to remember God’s care in the wilderness • Lights were hung outside temple –because Messiah would be a light to the gentiles • Water is poured out—because the whole earth will know God as the waters cover the sea • It is speculated by some that Jesus was born during Sukkot

  4. The Festivals • Rejoicing in the Law • Follows Sukkot as a sacred assembly • Jesus is the Living Word of God • Hanukkah • Feast of lights • Story of the Maccabeas • We must remain faithful in the midst of persecution for HE is faithful.

  5. The Festivals • Feast of Lots • Esther • We will all be persecuted but God is with us and will not abandon us.

  6. NUMBERS It’s a sequential thing

  7. ORDER • A main theme for the book of Numbers is order and keeping proper boundaries. • A census is taken (chapter 1) • The Camp is arranged (chapter 2) • The Levites special role (chapter 3) • Kohathites (chapter 4) • Gershonites (chapter 4) • Merari (chapter 4) • To each individual or clan a specific duty and task

  8. God and Reason • Numbers 3:10 • “And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall guard their priesthood. But if any outsider comes near, he shall be put to death.” • By whom? Who puts him to death? • Exodus 32:26

  9. God and Reason • When you sin there is a need for confession—it is not just metaphysical. • In the case of the jealous husband– how is this a case of benefitting the woman?! • The Silver trumpets to signal the people. • Notice Numbers 9:23 and 10:2
