  3. To use an –ER Verb in a complete sentence, there are TWO STEPS STEP 1: Form the STEM by simply removing –ER from the end Verb STEM parler parl étudier étudi regard regarder

  4. To use an –ER Verb in a complete sentence, there are TWO STEPS STEP 2: Add the ENDING for the subject of your sentence Verb: parler STEM: parl je parl e nous parl ons parl es tu vous parl ez parl e ils/elles parl ent il/elle

  5. Verb: étudier STEM: étudi j’ étudi e nous étudi ons vous étudi ez tu étudi es étudi ent il/elle étudi e ils/elles Verb: regarder STEM: regard je regard e nous regard ons tu regard es vous regard ez regard e ils/elles regard ent il/elle

  6. In the French Present Tense, there are NO HELPING VERBS! Il regarde la télé. = He watches TV. He is watching TV. Nous parlons français. = We speak French. We are speaking French.

  7. -ER Verbs: Pronunciation All the verb forms sound just like the STEM except for “nous” and “vous” In other words –E, -ES, -E, and –ENT are all SILENT endings! Verb: regarder STEM: regard je regard e tu regard es regard e ils/elles regard ent il/elle

  8. -ER Verbs: Pronunciation The “nous” form ends with a deep nasal sound: nous regardons nous parlons The “vous” form sounds just like the original infinitive form! vous regardez vous parlez

  9. Verb: danser STEM: dans je dans e nous dans ons vous dans ez tu dans es dans ent il/elle dans e ils/elles Verb: nager STEM: nag je nag e nous nag eons tu nag es vous nag ez nag e ils/elles nag ent il/elle
