The structure of a Haiku • Haiku divide into 2 parts, with a break coming after the first or second line, so that the poem seems to separate statements that are related in some unexpected or indirect way. • Japanese poets use a “cutting word”; Other poets mark the break with punctuation. • This two part structure prompts a sense of discovery and insight.
