Fusion of Operation Training Simulator (OTS) and 3D Virtual Working Fields

Integrating a training simulator with LNG base 3D CAD data creates realistic virtual working fields, improving training by integrating control room and field operations. Started in May 2015, this method enhances the educational effect. Osaka Gas has implemented operation training simulators since FY2004 to anticipate retiring experienced operators. By using 3D CAD data, training allows for concurrent practice of control room and field operations in a realistic virtual working field. This innovation enhances training efficiency and offers compatibility between reality and maintainability.

  1. Fusion of Operation Training Simulator (OTS) and 3D Virtual Working Fields H. Inoue– Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. K. Maenami – Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. R. Satomi– Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. By integrating a training simulator with an LNG base 3D CAD data, extremely realistic virtual working fields could be realized, and training was improved byintegrating the control room and the field. We started training using virtual working fields in May 2015, which has increased the educational effect. Background and purpose • Osaka Gas has installed an operation training simulator (OTS) in its terminals in succession since FY2004 in anticipation of the coming retirement of many experienced operators and has thus halved the training time and greatly improved the educational environment. • The terminals are working on ultimate automation and labor saving, and training of patrollers in addition to operators is also important. • By using LNG base "3D CAD data," which was not adopted in the past, it is possible to provide training in which control room operations and field operations can be concurrently practiced on an operation PC and a virtual-working-field PC respectively, in a more realistic virtual working field.

  2. Scene of training using the OTS Configuration of the OTS system Scene of training using the OTS Key development points Compatibility between reality and maintainability Detailed 3D CAD data closely matches the actual field. 3D CAD data (left) and photo of actual field (right) photo of actual field

  3. Expandability of the OTS Key development points Compatibility between reality and maintainability The screen appears more realistic when viewed through a pair of 3D goggles, ensuring more realistic training. Screen in stereo display viewed through a pair of 3D goggles Various contents, such as operation know-how, can be displayed on the simulator. The OTS can also be used as a training tool for new employees. Evaluation of patrol route proficiency levels Video played in the BOG compressor room

  4. Field training for new employees Learning in both virtual and actual fields complements each other's strengths and weaknesses, thus significantly improving the training effect.
