Getting to Know Mrs. Baughman… • Bachelors Degree-Illinois State University • Master’s Degree in Reading from Olivet Nazarene University • Mr. Baughman-AP, Harper 3 in September, Holly • 11th year teaching 3rd grade at Homestead • High expectations-progress academically/socially • People make mistakes, learn from them • You can do anything in my room, as long as it doesn’t disturb YOUR learning, MY learning or ANYONE else’s learning- Advocate for YOURSELF • Emails/Phone calls – 48 hours • Newsletters • Group Email

  4. Morning Routine • Attendance/Lunch Count • Empty backpack • Hand in notes • Complete their morning job • Check planners and homework =completed and checked *Please sign every night! Open communication • High expectations for the morning/organization • Math Block starts right away!

Math *Resource McGraw-Hill My Math -Written to the Common Core -Fully Print and Digital -Easily Connect Classroom & Home -Aligns to District 308 math curriculum. -Scope and sequence available on SD308 Website. -Focus on key topics at each grade level. -Foster reasoning and sense-making in mathematics. -Content standards require both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.

Spelling • Homestead will not be implementing this word study program • Students will review/practice 3rdGrade No Excuse Words. • Continue to practice spelling/ROCK strategies through our daily writing. • Misspelled words will be circled and expected to be corrected • Online Spelling- BigIQKids.com (PHH option) • 3rd grade No Excuse Words- kept in Writing folder/flashcards at home

SocialStudies • Houghton Mifflin • Maps and Globes (Quarter 1) • Early Illinois History (Quarter 2) • Illinois Tribes/Government, famous Illinoisan project (Quarter 3) • States and Regions (Quarter 4) **The units go in this order but the length is subject to change based on the learning in the classroom**

  18. Second Step (SEL) • Stands for Social Emotional Learning. • We will have 30 minutes a week devoted to S.E.L. These 30 minutes will consist of “mini lessons”. • It is a school wide program: Each grade level features developmentally appropriate ways to teach core social-emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.
