Course Description • Create Computer—Based Instructional (CBI) materials • How? • Use Apple KeyNote ’09 for project development • Learn to make associated multimedia materials • Find out what research says about CBI • Become Familiar with Garageband, IMovie & iDVD
ObjectivesStudents will do the following: • create simple CBI programs • master screen design and flowcharting skills • produce an ID plan for your project • learn to use several multimedia programs • plan for using technology in the classroom • more
Format • Hands—on Approach • Work in class • Post most work on your website • Use Lynda.com for instructional support • Make lots of mistakes

Write a Grant (10%)Students will do the following: • write a grant to fill a technology need they have • search for grants and RFPs online and in their district • write up the grant and show it to me before submitting it • Grants can be filled out online where appropriate
ID Plan (10%) • You will be given a template • Plan the development of your project and associated materials • You will use this to develop the final project
KeyNote CBI Project (40%) • Use KeyNote to create an instructional lesson • The program should address a real classroom need • Must use multimedia such as audio and video • Due at the end of the course
HW & Screen Cap Recording(10%) • A few screen recording programs will be used • Instructional focus related to your topic
Class Participation (10%) • Students take part in directed activities • Attendance and lateness can affect your grade • Group work as assigned
A Few Guidelines • 1. DO NOT USE ALL CAPITALS. • 2. One space after a period, comma or other marks. • 3. Don't underline text unless it’s a hyperlink. • 4. Use red only to highlight somethingimportant • 5. Stay away from multicolored text. • 6. Use bold and italics for highlighting important words, not for paragraphs.
A Few More Guidelines • 7. Left-align text. Don't center your text. Please. • 8. Use apostrophes correctly -1950s or '50s not 1950's. • 9. Place punctuation marks “inside quotation marks.” • 10. Use a spell chicker. 11. Don't use bold and italics together. • 12. For presentations, titles should be at least a size bigger than the rest of the text. • 13. For presentations do not put too much information on one slide
Lab Courtesies • No food or drink or candy in the lab. • There is a microwave available during class breaks • During rain or snow please leave wet umbrellas outside • Turn cell phones to silent, absolutely no texting in class • Do not surf the web or read eMail during instruction • Shut down your machine at the end of class and straighten up chairs and mousepads. Check around for any personal items you may be leaving behind.
