Objective • Given instructions, the learner will discuss different components of telecommunications with 85% accuracy.
Telecommunication • Telecommunication is the transmission of information over significant distances, for the purpose of communication.
Earlier Telecommunication Devices • Early communication involved the use of visual signals and audio messages such as: • Beacons • Smoke • Semaphore telegraphs • Signal Flags • Optical heliographs • Drumbeats • Lung-blown horns • Loud whistles
Modern Age Telecommunication Devices • Modern Age devices used electricity and electronics such as: • Telegraph • Telephones • Teletypes • Radio • Microwave communication • Fiber Optics • Orbiting Satellites and Internet
Media Transmission • A sending device is a generally computer. • A communication device, such as a modem, that converts the computer signal into signals supported by the communication channel. • A Communications Channel or path, such as telephone lines, cable, or a wireless transmission link, over which the signal are sent. • A receiving device that accepts the incoming signal, which is a general computer. • Communication software
Radio Signals • Radio signals travel in a straight line from one source to the other.
Microwave • A microwave signal is sent through space in the form of electromagnetic waves. The signal is also sent is a straight line. Doppler Radar Microwave Station Microwave Station
Satellite Transmissions • Communication satellites are placed in orbit 22,300 ft above the surface of the Earth. • http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.023938~-99.71&style=h&lvl=4&tilt=-89.875918865193&dir=0&alt=7689462.6842358
