  2. Growth in Popularity • Roughly 100,000 out of 12 million high school age students are currently attending online schools full-time. • This is up from 30,000 students only 5 years ago.

  3. Growth in Popularity cont. • These schools range from grades K-12. • There are a total of 438 online schools for these students to attend.

  4. Benefits of Online School • Appealing to gifted students that like to work at their own pace. • Give students that have dropped out of traditional high school a chance to receive a GED. • Better access to more multimedia content.

  5. Benefits cont. • Attractive to students who are involved in competitive sports. • Such as ballet, gymnastics or hockey. • Students are able to meet new people all across the world online.

  6. Disadvantages of Online Schools • No social interaction outside of your computer. • Some online schools have the possibility of not being accredited. • Online schools don’t have a good way of teaching team work skills via the web.

  7. Disadvantages cont. • Doesn’t allow students to learn from their peers. • Students without social interaction withdraw themselves will emotionally and socially.

  8. Entrepreneurship Opportunities • Create an online search engine that helps a student find which online school is right for them. • Create an online college preparatory high school that allows a smooth transition for students that plan to go to Ohio Northern University.
