The hippie movement was developed during the decade of 60-80. The “hippies” were a group of people, who rejected a series of preponderant values of the society in which they were. They listened to psychodelic rock and protest folk, they embraced the sexual revolution and they believed in free love. Some participated in radical activism and took drugs like marijuana (pot), LSD and other hallucinogens to escape reality as a way to rebel against society values. They also looked for other experiences, like meditation. They celebrated diversity and nonaggressiveness.
They celebrated diversity and nonaggressiveness. The hippies dressed in their own way: tight shirts, bell-mouth trousers (many colors), long, curly hair and eyes with lots of make up and very made up detachable eyelashes. Men shirts were very tight, just as their trousers and the colors were a little more discreet. They had long hair and sideburns. Both men and women wore high-heeled shoes with wide fronts and platform. Women also used long boots (up to the knee) and maxi coats. Around 1980 many of the old hippies were integrated in the dominant current that they had rejected. However, other hippies continued deeply committed to their way of life and ideals. Even today, many of these hippies meet in festivals and meetings to celebrate life and love.
