  3. On-Level vs. Accelerated How are they alike ? • Both cover the exact same standards • Both prepare the student for advanced math classes. • Both culminate with a state-required EOCT exam (20% of course grade)

  4. How are they different ? • Coordinate Algebra covers 6 units of study; Accel Coord Alg/Analytic Geom A covers 9 units of study. • Accelerated Math moves at a much faster pace and incorporates less directed teaching. • On-level Math incorporates more directed instruction and teaching techniques. • Accelerated Math requires the individual student to analyze and investigate independently when problem-solving. • On-level Math incorporates more guided practice through the problem-solving process.

  5. Keys to Student Success • Come prepared for class each day. • Keep an organized notebook. • Participate in all class discussions. • Ask questions. • Complete all assignments. • Know that retesting is an exception, not a rule .

  6. Calculator needed for Coord. Algebra or Analytic Geom. Texas Instrument TI-30XS Multiview (Scientific Calculator)

  7. Calculators needed for Accelerated Math Classes Scientific Calculator Graphing Calculator or and Texas Instrument TI-84 Plus Texas Instrument TI-30XS Multiview Texas Instrument TI-Nspire (not CAS)

  8. Course Waiver • Complete waiver form - found on-line WFHS. • Will require meeting with Mrs. Pavlicek (student AND at least one parent) – by appt. • NOTE: You waive, you stay.
