What is a simple sentence? • Simple sentence is a sentence that has one subject-verb pair. • Ex) My younger sister speaks English well. • Ex) My parents will retire soon.
What is a compound sentence? • Compound sentence is two simple sentences connected by a comma and a coordinating conjunction. • Ex) My family goes camping every summer, and we usually have fun. • Ex) We want to buy a house soon, so we need to save money.
What is a complex sentence? • Complex sentence has one independent clause and one (or more) dependent clauses. • If the independent clause is first, don’t use a comma. • If the dependent clause is first, put a comma after it.
Complex sentence’s example • Ex) After we won the lottery last year, my wife and I decided to take a trip. • Ex) We were very excited when we won.
