  5. US Dept. of Commerce What do employers want in an IT worker? A mix of formal education, specific technical skills, industry knowledge and experience, and other qualifications like project management, communication, and organizational skills. Soft skills (interpersonal, oral and written communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking) and business skills ( needs analysis, project management, customer relations, financial information, cost/benefit analysis) have become increasingly important for IT workers.
