  1. GRAIN GRADING LANGUAGE OF QUALITY

  2. GRADING IS THE PROCESS OF DIVIDING A COMMODITY INTO CLASSES, EACH OF WHICH HAS A DISTINCTIVE ACCEPTABILITY TO A SIGNIFICANT GROUP OF BUYERS.

  3. CRITERIA FOR GRADES AND STANDARDS • BUILT ON CHARACTERISTICS THE USERS CONSIDER IMPORTANT • BUILT ON THOSE FACTORS THAT CAN BE ACCURATELY AND UNIFORMLY MEASURED AND INTERPRETED • COST OF OPERATING THE SYSTEM MUST BE REASONABLE

  4. CONTRIBUTIONS TO OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY • TIME SAVER FOR TRADERS • BUY AND SELL OF UNSEEN COMMODITIES • TIME SAVER FOR CONSUMERS • NO NEED TO INSPECT EACH LOAD • TIME SAVER FOR LENDERS • NO NEED TO INSPECT COLLATERAL • PERMITS MIXING OF SEPARATELY OWNED COMMODITIES IN STORAGE OR TRANSPORTATION

  5. PRICING EFFICIENCY ALLOWS FOR COMMUNICATION

  6. GRADING GRAIN: CHARACTERISTICS TEST WEIGHT BROKEN CORN & FOREIGN MATERIAL DAMAGED KERNELS

  7. TEST WEIGHT IS A MEASURE OF GRAIN DENSITY AND IS DETERMINED BY WEIGHING THE QUANTITY OF GRAIN REQUIRED TO FILL A WINCHESTER BUSHEL (VOLUME MEASUREMENT)

  8. BROKEN CORN AND FOREIGN MATERIAL PIECES OF KERNELS OF CORN AND ALL MATTER OTHER THAN CORN THAT WILL PASS THROUGH A 12/64 -INCH SIEVE

  9. TOTAL DAMAGED KERNELS IS DEFINED AS KERNELS AND PIECES OF KERNELS THAT ARE HEAT DAMAGED, SPROUTED, FROSTED, WEATHER DAMAGED, MOLDY OR DISEASED

  10. WHAT OTHER QUALITY CHARACTERISTIC MIGHT BE CONSIDERED?

  11. EVALUATING THE ADEQUACY OF GRAIN STANDARDS

  12. 1. BCFM: CLASSIFYING PIECES OF GRAIN, DIRT WEED SEEDS AS HAVING THE SAME VALUE.

  13. 2. LOWEST FACTOR APPROACH : PLACES GRAIN IN THE SAME GRADE THAT COULD LIKELY HAVE WIDE DIFFERENCE IN OVERALL QUALITY.

  14. 3: THE PRESENT SET OF GRADES EXCLUDES FACTORS THAT ARE ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT.

  15. GRAIN GRADES AND TRANSPORTATION ISSUES

  16. GRAIN GRADES AND TRANSPORTATION ISSUES INCREASE IN BCFM DURING TRANSIT.
