Organic Chemistry Molecule Review Look at each molecule from the kits, read any details that will guide you. Black is always carbon, yellow is always hydrogen, the other colors vary.
Chloroethane No numbering is needed, that chlorine would be always on the “first” carbon atom.
Ethyl propyl ether That oxygen atom is between 2 R groups.
Ethanol alcohol The oxygen has an H attached, an -OH
Dark blue (top) is oxygen, the light blue lower left is nitrogen (with 2 attached hydrogen atoms)
That’s a 4 carbon amide, or Butanamine(no number needed, it’s always on one end in our class.
Tetrabromo methane
It’s an –OH or alcohol group on the third of five carbons, so 3-pentanol
Red is oxygen
3 carbons with an alcohol on the end: 1-propanol
Nothing is as simple as this, this is the first molecule of organic chemistry
Methyl methyl ether But we say Dimethyl ether
Heptane an alkane CnH2n+2
