Attendance • Student attendance is crucial to success. If a student is absent, the attendance office must be notified by note within 72 hours. • The Attendance Office can only accept 4 parent notes each semester. After that, the student will have to bring a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused. • The student is responsible for contacting the teacher for missed assignments on the day he/she returns to school. Teachers will have a website with weekly assignments posted. • To receive credit for a class, a student must attend at least 90% of the days the class is offered. Students missing more than 90% will have to attend Saturday School to receive credit for the class.
The New Graduation Plan • All students will earn: Foundation Requirements: 22 credits Endorsement (4 credits) • Students can choose to go above and beyond and earn: Distinguished Level of Achievement Performance Acknowledgements
Endorsements • Students take 4 credits in an endorsement area. Choices include: • STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) • Business and Industry • Public Service • Arts and Humanities • Multidisciplinary Studies
Family Access (Online Gradebook) • To sign up for the online gradebook, go to the WFISD webpage (wfisd.net) & click on Family Access on the right side. • Previous users still have the same login id & password from last year. • New users need to email the counselor to find out your login & password.
EOC Tests • Students are required to pass the following EOC (End of Course) tests to graduate: • English I • Algebra I • Biology • English II • US History • Students may be placed in alternative classes if they are not successful on the test.
How To See A Counselor • Students must sign up to see a counselor online through the Rider website. • The counselor will then send a pass for the student, usually the next day. • If there is an emergency/crisis, the counselors see the student immediately.
Schedule Changes • Students may request a change in their schedule for the following reasons: • To change from Honors/AP to regular • Elective classes cannot be changed • Performance drop form: students dropping choir, band, theater, athletics, ROTC…must pick up a form and it must be signed by the teacher/coach
Changing from Honors to Regular Classes • A student must remain in an Honors class for the entire year to receive the extra grade point. • Students are required to stay in their Honors class(es) the first six weeks of school. • Honors drop slips are available in the office and must be signed by both the parent & teacher. Students don’t need to meet with counselor to drop – just pick up the form & return it.
Changing from Honors to Regular Classes (con’t.) • Students cannot be changed from Honors to Regular during the last six weeks of each semester (3rd & 6th six weeks). • If class is dropped at the end of the 6 weeks, the grade increases according to our WFISD policy. • If the class is dropped in the middle of the six weeks, the current grade stands.
GPA and Class Rank • GPA and Class Rank are recalculated at the end of each semester. • At the Freshman level, a student’s rank can be misleading. Example: There could be 40 students ranked number one by the end of the first semester.
Courses for GPA Average • The class rank GPA will be the average of all the grade points earned in the following courses: • English I, II, III and IV • Math: Geometry, Alg II and 2 additional math credits (see list of classes that count on the WFISD website under Curriculum) • Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or AP Physics1or Principles of Technology and 2 additional credits (see list) • Social Studies: W. Geography, US History, Government/Economics and 1 additional credit (see list) • Languages other than English: credits in both Spanish II and Honors Spanish III
