SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL This year so far… • Greater levels of adjustment with a semester under their belt • Understanding what needs to be done in order to get the grades they want • Starting to show interest in wanting to be involved in clubs and other activities
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL This year so far… • Little involvement in clubs from the start of the year • Desire to move up to HP, when the grades are not there to support that move • Must master current class, so student is prepared to take next step if appropriate • If a student is struggling in a class, they must be proactive and get extra help from teacher outside of class and/or a peer tutor
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL Tests Taken Sophomore Year • PSAT will be taken fall of Sophomore year • What to expect: • Students will experience conditions of test • Students are not 100% prepared for sophomore year PSAT, so scores may be low; they do not get reported to colleges for admission • PSAT English scores are looked at for HP English 3 (junior year)

SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL Sophomore Year Schedule • 7 Periods are required: • 1. English 2 (CP or HP) • 2. Theology 2 (CP or HP) • 3. Chemistry or Biology (depending on this year) (CP or HP) • 4. Foreign Language • 5. Geometry (CP or HP) • 6. Elective (encourage fine art) • 7. 7th period Athletics/Elective • *Alg 2/Trig (CP or HP), if student receives double math rec./test score on MDTP, can add a zero period OR Geometry can be taken during the summer to eliminate zero period/8th class.
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL HP & AP Sign Ups • March 5th (during late start) • Students must visit designated teachers between 8:00 am and 8:50 am • Even if student is currently in an HP class, must still sign up/ visit those teachers on March 5th. • Detailed list of assigned classrooms have been sent to students via email and are also on Servite website
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL HP & AP Sign Ups • Theology & Foreign Language will be determined by current grades & performance in the classroom; teachers will talk to students (no information session) • So, subjects to visit for Sophomores on March 5th: Science, English, and History (only if interested in AP World or European) • Math, whether honors or double math, will be based on score received on MDTP exam given in the classroom in April. • All students take this; does not require any prep.
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL 2013-2014 Registration • Registration/Schedule packets for next year will be sent home in March • Due back in April (date will be specified on packet)
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL Freshman Year Finals • Must be here, unless it is an emergency!! • Many were out during first semester finals; creates problems in scheduling make-up exams • Dates: May 28th -May 31st • Finals 20% of 2nd semester grade (each marking period is 40%)
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL Clubs • CSF & NHS beginning of Sophomore year, using previous semester’s grades • At that time, see Ms. Valenzuela in counseling for application • It is extremely important to be involved and engaged in school environment • Mrs. Jeanne Nelleson, Activities Director
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL Servite Summer School • All semester “F” grades must be redeemed during Servite summer school • 2ndsemester “D” grades in Foreign Language and Math must be redeemed during Servite summer school • Advancement possibility for double math students only (CP or HP Geometry offered) • Session 1 redeems Semester 1 • June 24-July 10 8:00-12:40 • Session 1 redeems Semester 2 • June 24-July 10 8:00-12:40 • * All Semester “D” grades are recommended to be redeemed for college admissions.
SERVITEHIGH SCHOOL Summer • Attend summer school (if applicable) • All information will be on Servite website after spring break • Christian Service hours • Must have 30 hours completed in order to have grades released in June • Summer is a good time to get a head start on Sophomore year hours (30) • Contact Campus Ministry with any questions
