Hazardous Chemicals Title 8 (T8), of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) Section 3203 of the General Industry Safety Orders requires all employers to have an effective hazard control system which will identify hazards that exist or develop in your workplace
Why is this Important? All chemicals are considered hazards and must be identified to ensure proper handling and protection for all employees who may be potentially exposed
What is a Hazardous Chemical? A hazardous chemical is defined by Cal/OSHA as any chemical that is a health hazard or a physical hazard
Conducting the Hazardous Chemical Inventory List How often should the list be updated? Anytime a new chemical is introduced in the worksite
Review of the Chemical Inventory List and Information Sheet…..
Information Sheet • Department and Location: Place program name and building address • Responsible Person: The Program Manager and DSR • Phone Number:DSR Phone Number • Revision Date: Date should reflect when the list was updated with a new chemical
Chemical Name Where do you find the chemical name?
Common/Trade Name Black Xerox Toner
Manufacturers Name Xerox Corporation
Frequency of Use Describe usage by Daily, Monthly, Bi- Monthly, Yearly MSDS on File This should always be a YES! MSDS
On the rare occasion that a new worksite chemical does not provide a MSDS or it is not on the CEO/Risk Management Website, there is a way to obtain the information
How to Obtain a MSDS • Check the Manufactures Website • Call the contact information on the label and request it over the phone • Send a request in writing
