  3. Our Goals Math Big 20 The goal is for students leave 1st grade with the ability to correctly answer 20 math problems in 20 minutes! Reading Fountas & Pinnell The goal is for students to leave 1st grade reading at a Level J! Math Exemplars The goal is for students to be able to critically think about a word problem and explain how to solve it through words and pictures! Writing The goal is for students to leave 1st grade meeting or exceeding!

Testing Info • CogAT: Cognitive Abilities Test • September 16th-20th • Tests students way of thinking • ACCESS: English Language Learners • January 21st-March 4th • Interims: Benchmark Test • Tests what the students have learned and helps teachers to identify areas of the curriculum that need to be reviewed

Grading Info • Classwork Grades • Can be checked on the parent portal soon! • Grades are based on work we do in class or mini-assessments given on Fridays • Classroom subjects: Writing, Reading, Spelling, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Health • Interims count as 1% of Reading and Math • Homework is not taken as a grade • Reading level is counted as a classwork grade • Progress Reports will be sent home • October 18th, January 10th, March 13th, May 21st

Behavior • Individual Bands (aligned to school expectations) • All students start with 4 (good day) • Can earn bands (5 is super, 6 is WOW) • Can lose bands (3 is verbal warning, 2 is time out) • 1 is time out in another room (Ms. Turnipseed) • 0 means you go to the AR room and have parents called by me or the parent center for Spanish speakers • Each band lost is 5 minutes of recess taken away • 5 days with WOW earns a trip to the Treasure Box

Behavior • School Volume Expectations • Level 0 silent, Level 1 whisper, Level 2 talk • Lunchroom • Expected to use level 2 or be at level 0 when asked • Class-wide Rewards • If we get enough compliments from me, another teacher, the lunchroom monitors, or the administration, I will bring in a class treat

Remember • Phone Numbers • Make sure the school and I have the most up-to-date phone numbers in case we need to contact you • Bad Weather • Always check the TV or radio for school closings • Absent • Send in a note or a doctor’s note the next day • It is very important for your child to be at school • Going Home • Send a note if your child will be going home a different way

Remember • Check-Out and Drop-Off • Students cannot be dropped off before 8:20 AM • Students cannot be checked out after 3:00 PM • Only the people listed on the child’s card will be allowed to check them out • Visiting the School • You have to sign in with Ms. Mugan in the lobby to get a pass • You are more than welcome to eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria (lunch is12:03-12:33) • Please make an appointment with me to visit our classroom • Birthdays • If you want to bring cupcakes in for your child’s birthday, they need to be brought in and served during lunch

Folders • Homework Folder • Navy Blue • This folder goes home every night. • Please make sure your child is doing their homework sheet every nightand reading their small books to you. • Please sign their behavior sheet every night. This is also a place for you to write me any notes. • All work we do throughout the week goes home in “Keep at Home.” Please keep all student work at home and return the folder each day. • Check this folder for any important information or paperwork we need returned in “Return to School.”
