Chemical Reaction Lab

Chemical Reaction Lab . Workstation 5. It is a neutralization (acid - base) reaction. Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) is a base, it reacts with the acetic acid (vinegar) to produce water (H 2 O) and Sodium Acetate. In the process it also evolves CO 2 (carbon dioxide) as a product.

  1. Chemical Reaction Lab

  2. Workstation 5 • It is a neutralization (acid - base) reaction. Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) is a base, it reacts with the acetic acid (vinegar) to produce water (H2O) and Sodium Acetate. In the process it also evolves CO2 (carbon dioxide) as a product. • HC2H3O2 (acetic acid) + NaHCO3 (sodium bicarbonate) -> NaC2H3O2 (sodium acetate) + H2CO3 • The H2CO3 is not stable and breaks down quickly to form water and Carbon dioxide: (H2CO3 -> H2O + CO2).

  3. Workstation 4 • The decomposition of hydrogen peroxide • hydrogen peroxide     oxygen   +   water.H2O2(aq)         O2(g)   +   H2O(l) • We used KI as a catalystthereforeitshouldbewrittenabove the arrow.
