Practice PlanWarm up • 10 to 30 minutes (sport dependant) • Warms muscles and readies them for peak performance • Helps prevent injury to muscles • Prepares athlete to focus mentally for the start of the activity • See hand out on warm ups for suggestions and tips
Practice PlanMain Part • 60 – 90 minutes • Identifies the drills of your practice in the order you wish to conduct them • Shows the layout and positioning for each drill as well as diagrams of how the drill is done • Lists the equipment needed for each drill • Tells how long each drill is done • Instruction points for the drill
Practice PlanCool Down • 5 to 10 min activity of low physical and mental exertion • May include stretching, light activity or game like culmination • Allows the muscles to recover from intense work and reduces the possibility of having sore muscles • Allows the athlete to focus and come down mentally after activity
Practice PlanConclusion • End each practice by bringing them in to talk for 2 – 5 minutes • This is an opportunity to remind about practices, games or other house keeping items • This is an opportunity to assess and offer feedback on the practice, to praise or recognize good efforts, to link this practice to the next one, etc. • End with a custom (ie - a cheer)
