Carotid Ultrasound(Principal Limitations) • Only a small region of the arterial lumen can be evaluated at any one time. • Discrete pulsed Doppler sample volume must be moved serially throughout the entire vessel within the B-mode image to get complete information on flow patterns. • This process is tedious and flow disturbances confined to a small section of the vessel may be overlooked. • The complex 3-D features of flow in the bifurcation region are difficult to appreciate.
