Project Exercise Evan Blair
Excersize Effectively working out, on a consistent basis is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. The importance of working out: • Triggers the release of the chemical Dopamine, which means you will feel better from working out. • Reduces risk of heart disease, stroke, Alzheimers, and numerous other conditions. • Teaches the value of discipline, and hard work.
My routine My father taught me how to swim, and why it is the greatest workout. Before I started swimming for exercise this summer I had a football player’s body that I didn’t want anymore. Swimming changed my life. I incorporated swimming into Project Exercise. My first priority was to hit 20 laps every single day. Second, I wanted to go back to some of the workout routines I hit consistently over the summer. Third, I wanted to diversify my workouts in order to make it to the gym as many times as possible.
Day 1 I did not reach all my goals, but left the gym tired, and woke up feeling great the next morning.
Day 2 Because I swim freestyle in the pool I found that my arms and upper body were already sore by the time I hit the weight room, so I switched gears to lower body workouts.
Day 3 I was very tired on Thursday and felt sore after working out for 3 days in a row overall and spending 2 days on Project Exercise. I swam 20 laps and skipped the weight room.
Day 4 I took the day off to physically recoup. At this point I felt like all the buildup I had gotten from swimming was finally turning into bulk by hitting the weight room.
Day 5 When I got to the gym on Saturday I saw 3 guys playing basketball. I decided to change my workout for the day. I offered to play a game of 2v2 basketball. I only swam 15 laps to save energy. It was fun to play basketball again, but it screwed up my workout.
Day 6 I got to the gym too late to use the pool so I only used the weight room. It felt terrible. The refreshing full body effect of swimming makes me feel great after a workout, something I didn’t achieve in the weight room.
Day 7 I felt sick on Monday so I did not go to the gym.
Conclusions I need to swim when I work out. I hadn’t not swam and worked out in such a long time, that I forgot how I felt without it until after I worked out Sunday night in the weight room. I really enjoyed doing pull-ups, curls, and incline bench press with dumbbells again. Those were my favorite workouts when I had a better routine in the summer. I also learned that I can definitely workout effectively five times in a week. Exercise is one of the most rewarding experiences that you can give yourself, and has outstanding physical and mental health benefits.
