  1. Understanding the Areas of Interaction (AoI)

  2. What is an AoI? • The Areas of Interaction (AoI) help IB students in the Middle Years Program (MYP) to connect their learning from subject to subject. • You will see that the same AoI is used in different classes throughout the school year. • Because the AoI is used at different times and in different classes, you will be exposed to more than one point of view and be able to form your own understanding of these important concepts.

  3. MYP has five AoIs. These are found on page 5 of your student planner. Each AoI has some key thought questions that will help guide your thinking and learning and apply to all subjects. Today your group will investigate one of the AoIs.

  4. Our task for today is for you to “meet and greet” an AoI. Ask yourself these questions… • What does this AoI have to do with me? • How do I use it to make learning easier? • How will it help me to become the 21st century learner described in the Learner Profile +2?

  5. Instructions for Today • You will be assigned to one of five groups. • Each group gets a different AoI description. • In addition to the clue sheet, you may use page 5 of your planner to begin to develop some ideas about your AoI. • Your group will design a flag that symbolizes your AoI. Be sure that the design includes the letters associated with your AoI. • If you need additional information, your teacher can help you be going to the book MYP: From Principles into Practice, pages 14 – 33.
